The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) is introducing brand new membership options designed for independent garages. The new schemes will launch in January 2026.
The move comes following an increase in garages turning to the organisation for support in recent years. Recognising this, the organisation has developed a structured membership platform that enables garages to benefit from IAAF representation, resources, and opportunities and to support greater dialogue throughout the supply chain.
There are three tiers of membership available for garages: Registered member, accredited member and leadership member.
The new memberships will open up access to IAAF’s growing portfolio of services, including training, compliance support and industry events, while also providing garages with a valuable platform to liaise directly with suppliers and distributors across the aftermarket.
Advanced levels from IAAF
Garages joining as registered members, which remains free of charge, will gain access to the IAAF Training Academy, receive regular news and industry updates, and be featured on the IAAF website.
For those looking to play an even greater role, advanced levels of paid for memberships offer further benefits, including lobbying support, Motor Ombudsman accreditation, market insights, and the opportunity to participate in the newly created IAAF Garage Council – a group of 30 garages that will help shape industry policy and provide vital feedback.
“Membership will remain free at the point of entry,” stated Mark Field, Chief Executive of the IAAF. “I believe that every garage should have access to an association.
“It is important that every business, garage and technician has their voice heard and work on the greater goal of raising standards. Our garage membership will be run by garages for garages and IAAF will work tirelessly to support all areas of their business.”
Evolution happening
Tina Drayson, Operations Director at CCM Garages, added: “I have been a member of the IAAF for a number of years, and I have watched it evolve into a truly representative voice for our industry. I am delighted to see a dedicated membership offering now being introduced for independent garages, it is something many of us have been calling for.
“This new platform recognises the vital role garages play within the aftermarket and gives us the tools, knowledge, and collective influence to make a real difference. Whether it is access to training, compliance guidance, or the ability to shape industry policy through the Garage Council, this is a game-changer for our sector.
“It is encouraging to see the organisation not only listening to garages but building something that will help strengthen our businesses and raise standards right across the board.”
The launch of the garage membership platform comes as the IAAF intensifies its lobbying activity on behalf of the entire aftermarket. By giving independent garages a stronger, collective voice, the industry body aims to ensure their concerns are represented at the highest levels.
