BookMyGarage has published its first-ever industry report, drawing on data from its own platform, alongside garage market insights.
The report provides a data-led view of how UK motorists are booking MOTs, servicing and repairs, and what this means for garages. It also reveals how BookMyGarage works for the sector, and how businesses are viewing current challenges within the automotive aftermarket.
The BookMyGarage 2025 Aftermarket Insights Industry Report combines data from millions of real booking interactions with surveys of garage owners and motorists, delivering a unique snapshot of trends and changing consumer behaviour as well as workshop demand across the sector.
Findings from the BookMyGarage report
The BookMyGarage report comes at a time when the automotive aftermarket is going through a period of change. New technologies have come along, but the cost-of-living increases are pushing some motorists into delaying essential servicing and maintenance work.
However, the new study reveals that BookMyGarage delivered £134 million worth of work to its garage partners in 2025, a record-breaking year. Of this, independent garages dominated, receiving 92% of bookings.
In addition, the platform reported that its Accelerate package delivered an 8:1 revenue return in the year, while 79% of businesses said BookMyGarage bookings had a ‘significant’ impact on their business.
The report also highlights the thoughts of garages when it comes to the MOT cost cap. Currently, the aftermarket is pushing the UK government for an increase, the first since 2010. BookMyGarage shows that 62% of workshops surveyed want to increase the cost from the current £54.85 limit.
When it comes to MOT booking, 35% of drivers made their request within a three-day window of their annual test expiring. There is, therefore, a need for some workshops to either allow for short-notice bookings, or to educate on the importance of checking MOT expiry dates, and arranging the test in advance.
Customer trends revealed
In addition, the BookMyGarage report shows that 27% of bookings for work take place outside traditional garage hours. This highlights the growing importance of garages’ ability to take online bookings, allowing customers to work on their own timeframes. Drivers are also searching for work by distance, meaning convenience is key, especially over price.
The study goes on to highlight the view of motorists on maintaining regular servicing and repairs, alongside patterns in garage pricing for maintenance. There are also trends in the ages and types of vehicles being booked into workshops through the BookMyGarage platform, as well as the status of EV bookings, and garage capacity to take on this work.
“This report marks an important milestone for us,” said Karen Rotberg, Co‑Founder of BookMyGarage. “For the first time, we’re sharing our platform data and garage market insight to help the industry better understand how driver behaviour is evolving – and where the real opportunities lie for garages.”
