UK stockists get to grips with Lucas range

To provide customers with a greater insight on its product portfolio, SMP Europe has begun hosting Lucas technical training events for UK stockists at its Nottingham ‘centre of engineering excellence’.

Attendees were provided with hands-on demonstrations of the brand’s engine management products, which are brought to market under SMP Europe stewardship, enabling them to get to grips with the latest innovations in the range.

They were also given the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with SMP Europe’s technical engineering experts.

Products featured in the Lucas range include ignition coils, cam/crank sensors, air mass meters, lead sets, coolant temp sensors and oil pressure switches, engineered by SMP Europe in the UK and Poland.

Richard Morley, SMPE Commercial Director, said: “With technology developing at a rapid pace, it’s important that the entire supply chain keeps up with the changes to avoid getting left behind in a constantly evolving market.

“We invested in our centre of engineering excellence exactly for this reason, and technical training events, such as this one, mean we can share our engineering expertise with customers. It’s a two-way communication, and we are able to engage directly with Lucas stockists and answer any queries – as well as listen to any issues affecting the industry – with the aim to continually find solutions.”

SMP Europe – which produces engine management and ignition products under various brands such as Intermotor and Lucas – has a strong engineering workforce and recently revamped its workshop facilities and engineering equipment to aid the rapid prototyping of products.

The centre enables SMP Europe engineers to continually introduce new products and, as part of a substantial investment programme, develop innovative powertrain technologies that meet ongoing demand and adhere to current and future vehicle regulations.

The focus on Nottingham as a centre of engineering excellence complements the company’s growth throughout Europe, with a production facility in Poland to meet the increased demand from mainland European customers.
