Youngsters who want to get their first experience behind the wheel will be given the opportunity of a lifetime at The British Motor Show in August.
The Big Learner Relay, which is a group of driving instructors who give up their time for free in the interests of driver education and road safety, will be offering a first-time driving experience to youths aged between 10 and 17 at the show.
A total of 800 slots will be available during the show between the Thursday and the Sunday with a percentage of the proceeds from the initiative being donated to BBC Children in Need.
A 20-minute experience costs £21.25. The tickets will only be offered to people who already hold a show entry ticket – but accompanied children below the age of 18 get free show entry.
To book a slot visit the show website, but do so quickly as previous events of this type have sold out very quickly.
In their session, the young drivers will be under the full supervision of a qualified instructor in a car fitted with dual controls. The cars used by the Big Learner Relay are supplied by dealer group Arnold Clark. The experiences will take place around the airfield at Farnborough, with a meet point outside the event halls.
The British Motor Show CEO, Andy Entwistle, said: “I remember going to motor shows as a kid and wishing I could actually drive the cars that were on the stands. Indeed, when we discussed it among the show committee, we all said the same, so we thought why not make it happen?
“Taking your son or daughter to the British Motor Show and allowing them to actually drive a car is a dream come true for car-mad kids, as well as a first step to them learning the basics of safe car control. I’m delighted we’ve got the Big Learner Relay at the show and have huge respect for the instructors who give up their valuable time to benefit charity.
“This is yet another way that The British Motor Show is engaging with a younger generation and helping them develop a love for motoring.”
The organisers are expecting over 50,000 visitors through the doors of Farnborough International between August 20th-23rd, dates which have been chosen to coincide with school holidays and make it as accessible as possible for all visitors.
Tickets for the show will represent terrific value at £18.50 for adults or £37 for families.
