DENSO Aftermarket’s ongoing commitment to helping technicians increase their technical knowledge and understanding is nowhere more evident than through its European wide League of True Mechanics competition.
Introduced in 2020, the competition provides a friendly competition to run alongside the brand’s high-quality online training and assessment modules. These are designed to help technicians increase their technical knowledge and improve their overall skillset.
Auto Repair Focus spoke with DENSO UK’s Assistant Manager, Mike Sadler and three time League of True Mechanics UK winner, Edd Hunt, to find out more.
How The League of True Mechanics works
The League of True Mechanics is a European competition, broken down into regions, with regional winners then competing together for the continental title.
Therefore, the DENSO e-learning programme provides the detailed technical information and interactive online courses that the League of True Mechnanics competition is based on, and the technicians that register free of charge can study the material, during which they have the opportunity to win DENSO ‘coins’.
The coins are awarded by correctly answering the question posed by a ‘mini quiz’ that periodically appears within the modules, as well as in the final exam at the end, with the number of DENSO coins earned during the year determining the overall position in the competition.
The online technical area contains modules addressing all of DENSO’s product groups. As study courses from the previous year’s League of True Mechanics competitions are still useful and relevant, they remain on the DENSO e-Learning platform indefinitely. However, to keep the competition fresh and up to date, with the latest important additional technical content, new modules are also introduced every year.
This year these modules include hybrid and electric vehicles, AC repair, engine management systems, AC compressor oil balancing and exhaust gas temperature sensors, amongst others.
To get involved, technicians need to visit the DENSO e-learning portal at www.denso-technic.com, register as a ‘Garage’ or ‘Distributor,’ and start collecting coins.
