ELTA to launch new lighting test facility to advance bulb compliance

Automotive aftermarket supplier ELTA Automotive will open the newest of only a handful of light measurement and photometry test facilities in the UK and Europe later this year.

Developed with technical consultancy from expert manufacturing partners, the company has undertaken a ‘no-expense-spared’ approach to its new facility which the company describes as cutting edge. The work and development that has gone into the testing area underscores ELTA’s commitment to advancing quality assurance and testing capabilities.

Light pattern measurements

At the heart of the new facility is a state-of-the-art five-megapixel imaging photometer with a matched lens and Sony’s latest Pregius CMOS sensors. This advanced equipment will enable ELTA to accurately measure light output and beam patterns in compliance with Regulation 112, ensuring the highest standards for its products.

“All ELTA bulbs are manufactured to meet regulation R37 standards and achieve e-mark status,” explained Tim Brotherton, Marketing Manager at ELTA Automotive. “Key aspects of R37 compliance, such as geometry, photometry, and performance metrics like wattage, luminous flux, and kelvin temperature, are rigorously tested by our manufacturing partners throughout manufacture and beyond.

“At our new facility, we can now test bulb performance in headlamps to ensure compliance with Regulation 112, verifying optimal light output and precise beam patterns.”

Safety critical for ELTA

Purpose-built for the new equipment, the area is powered by a dedicated programmable AC power source to maintain a controlled environment and consistent testing conditions.

Road safety is central to ELTA’s mission, and the new testing facility ensures that light is directed precisely on the road, while avoiding prohibited beam cut-off areas that cause glare. This precision helps protect other road users from being dazzled, enhancing safety for everyone.

“Our advanced testing processes ensure ELTA bulbs deliver clear visibility for drivers while safeguarding the safety of others,” added Brotherton.

ELTA plans to invite customers and key industry figures to visit the new testing facility, offering distributors a first-hand look at the company’s technical capabilities.

“Our new light testing facility isn’t just about advancing our capabilities, it’s about inspiring our customers and distributors,” concluded Brotherton. “We want to demonstrate that exceptional quality, performance, and safety are achievable without compromising on affordability or the freedom of choice that defines the aftermarket.”
