HEVRA, the UK network of independent garages specialising in electric and hybrid vehicle repairs, has announced that it now supports over 400 models as part of its technical expertise.
With hybrid and electric vehicle sales rising, and older models starting to come into the used-car market, the need for knowledge, support and training on the technology will likely increase in the coming months and years. In addition, since 2022, there have been many more models launched in the UK market using the technology.
Therefore, HEVRA’s ability to provide its expertise and support for the growing number of hybrid and electric vehicle owners in the UK highlights its growing commitment to the independent aftermarket.
Knowledge from HEVRA
HEVRA ensures its member garages have access to the latest training, diagnostic tools, and technical support, enabling them to work on a vast range of models from various manufacturers.
“As the EV and hybrid market continues to expand, we are committed to equipping independent garages with the expertise needed to service these vehicles effectively,” comments Craig Scragg, Technical Services Manager at HEVRA.
“Reaching the achievement of over 400 supported models, demonstrates our dedication to staying at the forefront of this evolving industry. Our goal is to provide motorists with peace of mind, knowing they have access to qualified technicians no matter what EV or hybrid they drive.”
Increased work potential
In April, BEVs will be subject to vehicle excise duty (VED). This is set at £10 (€12) for the first year of registration, followed by an annual charge of £195. Models registered before 1 April 2017 will only be subject to a £20 yearly payment.
However, BEVs with a list price above £40,000 will be subject to the expensive car supplement (ECS). This is paid yearly between the second and sixth year of a vehicle’s registration. According to the SMMT, this could add £2,125 to the cost of running a BEV over its first six years, on top of the additional VED charge.
This move may push buyers into the used-car market. These models will have less links to franchised dealerships, meaning drivers could increasingly look at the independent sector to get their EV serviced.
HEVRA’s expansion means more drivers can benefit from professional, high-quality servicing and repairs without being limited to manufacturer dealerships. By fostering a network of skilled and knowledgeable independent garages, HEVRA is helping to shape the future of sustainable vehicle maintenance in the UK.
