Schaeffler has launched the e-Axle RepSystem-M, an e-axle motor repair solution for the first-generation Hyundai Ioniq, and the motion technology company says to expect similar kits for more electric vehicles before the end of 2024.
Schaeffler’s recently renamed Vehicle Lifetime Solutions division unveiled the new kit at Automechanika Frankfurt earlier in the week. It is currently the only e-axle motor repair solution available for the 2016-2019 model.
“This new kit makes it possible to replace damaged bearings in the Ioniq’s e-axle motor, instead of having to replace the entire motor or e-axle,” commented Matt Selby, Sales and Marketing Director at Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket (UK) Ltd.
This is good news for garages and their customers. “The cost to the owner is only about a quarter of the price of installing a completely new e-axle,” added Selby.
Meeting demand with e-Axle RepSystem-M
The new kit reflects a growing demand in the aftermarket. “More than half of all electric motor drivetrain problems are caused by worn bearings,” continued Selby. “Schaeffler’s new e-Axle RepSystem-M contains all the parts needed for workshops to carry out a professional, efficient and effective repair.”
The kit comes complete with a rotary shaft seal, O-rings for the rotor shafts, flat seals, and sealing paste. A step-by-step repair manual is also available, including all the torque settings required for a correct and safe installation.
The e-Axle RepSystem-M follows the launch of the e-Axle RepSystem-G for the Volkswagen e-Golf e-axle gearbox earlier this year, and the company is preparing to release more kits. “We are continually expanding our e-mobility portfolio to meet the requirements of the growing electric vehicle parc,” said Selby, “and further kits for e-axles from other manufacturers will be added this year.”
