Ben launches Big Breakfast fundraiser to support mental health

Automotive industry charity Ben is to launch its first ever ‘Big Breakfast’ fundraiser in October. The event will run for a week, starting on 4th October and ending on World Mental Health Day, 10th October.

Ben is encouraging automotive people to set themselves up with the most important meal of the day and get together with others over a cuppa and breakfast butty. As World Mental Health Day is the finale of the week-long event, the focus is also on opening up, talking about mental health, connecting with others and sharing experiences.

Host a breakfast any day during that week and bring, bake, make and sell breakfast to raise money to support Ben’s work in the industry. Those hosting Ben’s Big Breakfast can also raffle a Ben bear to fundraise.

The charity is asking individuals and companies in the industry to host colleagues, family, friends and customers for Ben’s Big Breakfast. The efforts and support will help the entire automotive family, and any member who may be in crisis.

“We’re very eggcited about our new fundraiser – Ben’s Big Breakfast,” commented Matt Wigginton, Director of Partnerships, Engagement & Income. “It really is an eggcellent way to fundraise and support your automotive industry family. It’s also the perfect opportunity to boost mental wellbeing by chatting to friends, colleagues, family and customers over a cuppa.

“So, we hope you’ll join us for a butty and a brew in October to raise much needed funds for Ben, because, when any member of our automotive family is in crisis, we all rally to support them. We propose a toast to everyone who hosts Ben’s Big Breakfast – thank you for your support!”

The puns may be interesting, but the rallying call is not. Over the last 18 months, more and more people have struggled with their mental health, as the COVID-19 pandemic caused job losses, financial stress and loneliness for thousands and thousands of those in the automotive industry. From young to elderly, the pandemic has highlighted the struggles of day-to-day life that we may all take for granted.

Mental health issues have existed for years before the impact of COVID-19, however. From simple anxiety to depression and worse, anyone can suffer – mental health does not discriminate.

Yet now is the time to seize on the awareness of the issues faced by millions around the country, and offer help and support in the best way possible.

Ben’s campaign comes at a time when social activity is slowly growing following intense lockdowns. It is important that the wide automotive family comes together to share, support and help those in need.
